According to a recent study, 43% of people judge a person's personality based on their online pictures. If someone included a photo of themselves hiking, you might consider that person as an outdoorsy type.

A group of scientists wanted to know what women think about men who post pictures, posing with their favorite feline. Previous studies suggested that women judge a potential male partner based on whether he has pets.

Although most girls prefer men with dogs, the findings showed that they also give men with cats a chance compared to non-pet owners. Because of the results, the researchers concluded that women find guys who pose with felines as more desirable and attractive than men who don't take pictures with any animals.

The study recruited 1,388 heterosexual American women from 18 to 24 years old to a short anonymous online survey, including white men in their 20s either posing with a cat or just himself. They were asked to rate the men on several personality attributes such as masculinity, attractiveness, and femininity.

Why most women find guys with cats less dateable

Although the early findings were promising, the survey revealed that most women found men holding their cats to be less dateable. The scientists were surprised since previous studies showed that ladies still consider men to have higher potential as partners.

The participants also thought that men with cats were less extroverted and more neurotic, open, and agreeable. They see those guys as less masculine as well.

The researchers concluded that women don't like to date a guy with a cat because they want more masculine guys in terms of behaviors and physical appearance. Because of this, scientists suggested that women are likely to look for clues related to masculinity when finding a date.

The study suspected that women are still influenced by old cultural norms when finding a partner.
