LONDON, ENGLAND - AUGUST 13: In this photo illustration the official NHS Covid-19 "Test and Trace" contact tracing app is seen on a screen on August 13, 2020 in London, England. The NHS has used several mobile applications during the course of the pandemic to help patients assess and report their symptoms. This week, they have started trialling the "NHS Covid-19" contact-tracing app, after a series of delays in the development process.
On Thursday, Sept. 24, the National Health Service (NHS) belatedly launched its new app in England and Wales. It works by asking the users who have been near with people infected with the virus.
The app allows people to check-in to restaurants, pubs, or other venues by scanning a QR code on their device. They'll receive an alert message that would inform them if some of the people with them have been infected. The app would tell them to self-isolate if there are positive cases.
After it was launched, the NHS COVID-19 app was downloaded more than a million times in just 24 hours. However, since it is new, some users still don't know how to download.
Installing NHS COVID-19 App
The new contact tracing app is available both on iPhone and Android devices. People could download it from the App Store or Google Play Store.

You can update your device by navigating to the Settings (General). Once you have located it, you need to tap on the "Software Update' option.
Activating NHS COVID-19 App
After downloading the new contact tracing app, you'll receive a "Privacy Note." It is advisable to thoroughly read the instruction to know how the app would use your data.
Once you are good with the Privacy Note, you must tap the "Agree" option if you want to use it. The first part would require you to enter your postcode. After that, you'll receive an alert asking you to activate COVID-19 exposure logging and notifications.
You'll also receive a message asking your permission if the app could send notifications. Once you're done with the activation, the app is now ready to use.
