Elon Musk Promises Huge Updates on Tesla Battery Day - Here's How to Watch

In a few hours, Elon Musk's hyped up Tesla's Battery Day event will happen at 4:30 p.m. EST on Tuesday, September 22. With so much great promises of great updates and new innovations in Tesla's electric vehicle and battery technologies, investors and the public are highly expecting it.

Battery Day 2020: How to watch  

According to Tesla website, a separate Battery Day event will immediately follow after the company's annual meeting at 4:30 p.m. EST. Both events will be available in separate live video webcasts, which will be accessible to the general public. Here's how to watch the virtual events:

For the general public

interested individuals can visit the website: https://www.tesla.com/2020shareholdermeeting  to watch the livestream of events as they happen.

For shareholders

The 2020 Annual Meeting and the Battery Day events will only allow limited number of in-person attendees following the health protocols and travel considerations amid the pandemic. However, Tesla is also providing all stockholders a way to join the annual event through a virtual meeting platform.

To access the virtual meeting place, just open any browser and type the URL: www.meetingcenter.io/234436330. Enter the password, which is tsla2020 to join the virtual meeting. Enter the unique 15-digit secure "control number" provided to each stockholder. The control number can be obtained as follows: For "stockholder of record" with shares purchased directly from tesla agents and listed under their name, the control number are included on the Notice of Internet Availability or paper proxy card that was sent with meeting dated September 22, 2020. For "beneficial owner" with shares acquired through a broker or other organization, they must register in advance before 5 p.m. EST on September 17 to get a control number. Their broker or organization will provide a "legal proxy" and they must forward it to [email protected] using their registered e-mail address with "Legal Proxy" on the subject line.

While the virtual meeting will also show same live webcasts as provided for the general public, shareholders can submit votes and write comments through the secured platform.

In-Person Events

Both the Annual Meeting and Battery Day events will be held at the Tesla's Fremont site in California. Tesla vowed to uphold strict compliance with health protocols through robust measures to manage the attendees, including screening protocols among all attendees and personnel.

Attendees of the live events are picked through draw lots to ensure fairness. Selected stockholders are subjected to further confirmation of their identity through by sending valid government-issued ID. The attendees' slots are non-transferable while selection began on August 30, 2020.

What to expect on Battery Day 2020

As CEO Elon Musk has teased the event through Twitter posts, many are expecting much about the virtual event. On Sept. 11, he tweeted that the upcoming Battery Day will unveil "many exciting things."

Electrek reported a leak that Tesla will unveil massive battery cells as new Roadrunner product. While the massive cell is relatively similar to the supercapacitor than a traditional battery cell, battery enthusiasts assume that the company will also show some design improvements on the new battery during the event.

Meanwhile, as a Tesla battery supplier announced in June that they can now produce batteries that can run a million miles, this would require a shift in battery production technology from lithium-ion to lithium-ion phosphate (LFP).

If true, this means that CATL will no longer use cobalt in EV batteries, which would ultimately reduce the actual price of the vehicles.
