Boring Company CEO Elon Musk's vision of warping out of traffic will soon come true as the company's first operational tunnel under Las Vegas is almost done while they plan to expand in Austin, Texas.

In a series of tweet posted on Tuesday, Musk said: "Tunnels under cities with self-driving electric cars will feel like warp drive First operational tunnel under Vegas almost done."

The Boring Co. aims to bypass traffic by creating an underground traffic system, which is made of earthquake-resistant tunnels that are super safe. In 2017, Musk tweeted that he did not like the heavy traffic and vowed to build tunnels to avoid it.

The tech billionaire also thought of building more tunnels with trains or cars as each large city on Earth is pestered by worsening traffic. "Multi-level tunnels might solve this, so worth trying," said Musk.

With the company's second tunnel in Las Vegas called the Vegas Loop is near completion within just under 3 months after completing the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop, the Boring Company will soon open the tunnels to the public. This will cut driving time from the Las Vegas Convention Center to Mandalay Bay to just three minutes, which can take up to 30 minutes during typical peak hours.

The tunnel is scheduled for public launch in January 2021. Once the project is completed, visitors will be transported from one end of the Convention Center to to the other side using Tesla electric vehicles Model X and 3 as well as a trams made from Model 3, which will serve as shuttles to make the two-minute journey.

LVCVA President and CEO Steve Hill said the drivers will drive at the launch of the system while vehicles will follow sensors and lines in tunnels as they move along the tunnel. After the completion of the second tunnel, the company will link the Las Vegas tunnels to the company's existing tunnels in Los Angeles, which would cut the current five-hour drive to just two hours or less without carbon emissions.

Loops in Austin?

Musk's Las Vegas project is highly appreciated by representatives who picked The Boring Co. for the city's dual tunnel system, which can transport passengers in small autonomous electric vehicles (AEVs). Aside from Las Vegas and Los Angeles, the CEO also aims to build a system that links Washington, DC, New York, and Chicago.

As one of his fans who suggested on Twitter that the company could also build a tunnel under Tesla's Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, Musk simply replied: "For sure."

Well, that is something to look forward to as a tunnel system under the factory can help reduce pressure on nearby roads, which is expected once the factory becomes operational.
